We are STORYOF.co — a creative studio producing custom animated heritage films and running live workshops for families marking life's most meaningful milestones.
We are based in Israel and serve customers globally, including in the United States and the European Union.
This policy explains what personal information we collect, why we collect it, how we use it, and the rights you have over it. It applies to our website at storyof.co, our landing pages (including the Bar Mitzvah Treasure Box workshop), our email and messaging communications, and any film commission you place with us.
We aim to write this in plain language. If anything is unclear, email us at hello@storyof.co and we will explain.
1.Who is responsible for your data
The data controller is STORYOF.co, contactable at hello@storyof.co. Daniella Koffler, founder, is responsible for how we handle your data.
2.What we collect
When you sign up for a workshop or newsletter
- Your first and last name (and optionally your child's first name)
- Your email address
- Your phone number (used for your Zoom access and, if you opt in, WhatsApp reminders)
- Your answers to pre-workshop survey questions (your child's Bar/Bat Mitzvah date, what feels important to you, what worries you, etc.)
- A timestamp and record of your consent to receive emails, WhatsApp messages, or SMS from us
When you commission a film
- Your billing name and address
- Payment information (handled by our payment processor — see "Third Parties" below — we do not store full credit card numbers ourselves)
- Interview recordings, family photos, and narrative materials you share with us to produce the film
- Names and biographical information about the people featured in your film (your child, grandparents, other family members)
Automatically (when you visit storyof.co)
- Standard web analytics data: IP address, device type, browser, pages visited, time on site
- Cookies as described in the "Cookies" section below
We do not collect
- Sensitive personal data (such as political opinions, religious beliefs beyond what you voluntarily share for the film, biometric data, or genetic data)
- Information about minors directly. When parents share information about their child for the purposes of producing a Bar/Bat Mitzvah film, the parent provides that information on the child's behalf
3.How we use your information
We use your data to:
- Deliver the workshop or service you signed up for — send the Treasure Box booklet, Zoom links, workshop reminders, and follow-up emails
- Communicate with you about related offerings — including the Heritage Film service — until you unsubscribe
- Produce your film, when you commission one — including editing your interview material, animating your story, and delivering the finished film
- Process payments through our payment processor
- Improve our services — using anonymized analytics about how visitors use our website
- Comply with legal obligations — including tax records, contracts, and consent records
4.Legal basis
For visitors in the EU, UK, or under GDPR-style frameworks, we rely on the following legal bases:
- Consent — for sending you marketing emails, WhatsApp messages, and SMS
- Performance of a contract — when you commission a film
- Legitimate interest — for basic website analytics and improving our services
- Legal obligation — for retaining tax and contract records
5.Third parties we share data with
We share your data only with service providers strictly necessary to operate our business. They are bound by their own privacy policies and data protection obligations.

6.International data transfers
Because we are based in Israel and use service providers in the United States and the European Union, your data may be transferred between these regions. We rely on legally recognized safeguards — Standard Contractual Clauses, the EU–US Data Privacy Framework where applicable, and Israel's adequacy status under EU law — to ensure your data is protected during transfer.
7.How long we keep your data
- Workshop signups and survey answers: kept until you unsubscribe or request deletion, or for a maximum of 3 years from your last interaction, whichever comes first
- Film commission records: kept for 7 years (for tax and contract purposes) under Israeli and US accounting law
- Film source materials (interviews, photos) you provide: kept indefinitely as part of your family's project archive — you can request deletion at any time
- Marketing consent records: kept for as long as legally required to demonstrate proof of consent, plus 3 years after withdrawal
8.Your rights
Regardless of where you live, you have the right to:
- Access the personal data we hold about you
- Correct anything that is inaccurate
- Delete your data (subject to legal retention requirements)
- Withdraw consent for marketing communications at any time — click the unsubscribe link in any email, or reply STOP to any WhatsApp/SMS
- Object to certain types of processing
- Request a copy of your data in a portable format
- Lodge a complaint with your local data protection authority
To exercise any of these rights, email hello@storyof.co. We will respond within 30 days.
Residents of California (under CCPA), the EU (under GDPR), the UK, and Israel have additional specific rights, all of which we honor.
9.Cookies
We use a small number of cookies on storyof.co:
- Essential cookies — needed for the website to function (e.g., remembering your form progress)
- Analytics cookies — anonymized data about how visitors use the site
- Embedded service cookies — set by Kit, Zoom, or our payment processors when you interact with their embedded forms or links
We do not use advertising cookies or third-party tracking pixels.
You can disable cookies in your browser settings. The site will still work, though some features may be limited.
10.Children's data
The workshops and film services are about children's Bar and Bat Mitzvah experiences, but the workshops and purchases are conducted entirely by parents and guardians.
We do not knowingly collect personal information directly from anyone under the age of 16. When parents share information about their child for the purposes of producing a film, they do so as the child's legal guardian. We treat this information with care and use it only to produce the family's film.
If you believe we have inadvertently collected information from a child without parental consent, contact hello@storyof.co immediately and we will delete it.
11.Security
We protect your data with reasonable technical and organizational measures: encrypted connections (HTTPS) on all pages where personal data is collected, secure cloud storage for film source materials, access controls limiting who at STORYOF.co can see your data, and regular review of our service providers' security practices.
No system is perfectly secure. If a data breach occurs that affects you, we will notify you and the relevant authorities as required by law.
12.Changes to this policy
We may update this policy from time to time as our business evolves or as legal requirements change. When we make material changes, we will email subscribers and update the "Last updated" date at the top of this page.
